Socialization in a nursing environment enables one to internalize the values of the nursing profession, which are paramount to the growth of the job and the foundation of their behavior. Nursing Students are exposed to such amounts during their nursing program by the nursing faculty as well as reading the nurse code of conduct. Professional socialization at the workplace enables the nursing students to obtain the necessary commitment in their profession with problem-solving and critically think like a “nurse” would do (Zarshenas et al., 2014).

Today, hospitals have become a community center, where nurses interact more with patients and coworkers. Patients, their families, as well as nurses, forms a bond, and get the most of their social needs met. Socialization can be the best way to develop workplace empathy because it creates a high-performance culture among nurses who are happy to work together towards the goal of care and, more so, to learn among themselves (Zarshenas et al., 2014). I strongly feel that workplace socialization for nurses is critical in creating a good working and learning experience as well as the environment. The nursing profession is a learning process that never ends. However, it much depends on how we associate with each other at our places of work.

I feel that building relationships, trust, respect, knowledge, and pure collaboration comes from creating good relationships. As I prepare for preceptorship, I

asked my management team if I can complete my preceptorship hours with the hospital I work for. The answer was yes, and they suggested that I do it with

one of the oldest nurses on the unit. Although I already have a relationship with all the nurses, and I would love to be trained by a nurse who has many years

of experience, I would also like to learn from new nurses who have been on the job for a year or two, because they would understand my situation better than

anybody else. The overall learning environment with building relationships is known to be the best way for coworkers to learn from one another, but, this

should not consist of fitting in, or being the black sheep Schrita Os., Mohamad S., (2017.) A study by Schrita Os., Mohamad S., (2017) mentions that a majority of

students or new grads are partnered with “old wolves” that are intimidating and expect you to fit into their colony, but, in reality, it isn’t the new grads that

need to be fit in but, the oldies that new to accommodate to make the new grad a better nurse. Sometimes being partnered with experienced nurses is not the

best choice due to the high expectations, and the intimidation that you get psychologically. A new hire should be automatically accompanied by fellow nurses,

taken under their wings, pampered, and trained to its full potential. Teaching is a gift, and being judged for something you might have potentially not done is

not fair. To conclude, yes socializing with colleagues is beneficial, but only if your colleagues are non-judgemental, and are willing to actually help you succeed

instead of dragging you down and drowning you whenever given the chance. Katelyn S (2015) mentioned that their study showed that 65 percent of knowledge

attained was recorded to be from fellow co-workers from their co-workers. This is a significant number that changes a new grads life, so being caring and

actually teaching a new grad, and giving the new grad the opportunity to learn from peers is the best way to attain knowledge and have it engraved within its
