PART 1: Laying the Foundation
Background and Timeline: What is the background of this film and the time period it covers?
When does it take place and where? (hint: consider creating a timeline)

Include key information about them, their backgrounds and their motivation. What did they
hope to accomplish in bringing this story to the world? Did they achieve their goal – why or why
not?
Characters: Who are the key characters in the film and their roles and responsibilities? What
are their connections to each other? How did they help or hinder the process of change in some
of the key events they were connected to? Who were the key leaders – describe their role, the
type of leader were they and why (provide supportive evidence). (hint: consider creating a table
of key persons to make connections between people, their roles in events and the process of
change and their connections to each other).
Significant Events: What key events took place and why were those events meaningful? To
whom were they meaningful and why? Provide evidence to support your ideas.

PART 2: Leading Change Analysis
Part 2 will have you analyze 5 areas of change management based on Chapters 1-5 in the book “Making Sense of Change Management” from Cameron
and Green (2015). In each of the 5 sections, YOU will devise the key question that YOU will ASK
and ANSWER about American Factory (2019) using the models, examples and research
provided in that chapter.
For example, in section 2.1, I might ask the question, “Individual Change: Why was there
very little attention paid to the emotional side of the American workers particularly in
the beginning of the movie and in the first six months of Fuyao Glass opening the
Dayton, Ohio, particularly because so many of the new workers lost their jobs in that
very same location two years earlier? I would then go about answering that question by
suggesting the American managers have been more in-tune with the process of loss
through the Kubler-Ross model (C & G, p. 32) and made space for workers to grieve
what was lost in order to embrace what was ahead. (And provide an example to support
my ideas).
2.1. Individual Change – Chapter 1
2.2 Team Change – Chapter 2
2.3. Organizational Change – Chapter 3
2.4 Leading Change – Chapter 4
2.5 The Change Agent – Chapter 5
