The assignment is a research proposal. I’ve included a link for the assignment instructions below. The assignment is for a course on the psychology of interpersonal relationships. The topic of the assignment is attraction, in the context of interpersonal relationships. So that means romantic attraction or platonic attraction, the general phenomenon of being attracted to another person whether romantically or otherwise. It is okay to focus on attraction in the context of romantic relationships. As described in the assignment instructions, 1/2 page has to be spent introducing the topic (attraction) and the next one and a half pages has to be spent on a literature review. This literature review must cover at least 8 different scholarly papers, of which two have to be the following:
Singh, R., & Ho, S. Y. (2000). Attitudes and attraction: A new test of the attraction, repulsion and similarity‐dissimilarity asymmetry hypotheses. British Journal of Social Psychology, 39(2), 197-211.
Brooks JE, Neville HA. Interracial attraction among college men: The influence of ideologies, familiarity, and similarity. Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. 2017;34(2):166-183. doi:10.1177/0265407515627508
More time should be spent discussing the more important research studies on attraction than the less important ones.
After discussing the important research that has been done on the subject of attraction, the next task is to propose a new line of research to extend the research on attraction. As discussed in the instructions for the assignment I’ve attached, it’s not about proposing a study in great detail but instead explain what your research question is, why it’s important, and how it builds on previous research, what you would hypothesize, how you would test it, and what theoretical/practical applications would be if your hypothesis is correct. An example new line of research might be attraction in the context of dating apps such as Tinder, and how attraction might play out differently in this context as opposed to regular life (ie. more superficial?).
key terms — interpersonal attraction, romantic attraction, dating, mate selection theory, ethnicity, physical attraction, multivariate analysis
