Research the irs.gov website (and only the irs.gov website) to find relevant information about three tax credits that the textbook already goes over in any level of detail.
Required is a verbal summary of what each of the three tax credits is and what taxpayers quality for it. Any phase-outs or other limitations should be discussed. There should be references to both the book and to the documentation found on the irs.gov website for each tax credit researched. These references should be clear and include the page number(s) cited, and it is required that a PDF copy of the reference used from the irs.gov website with this project submission.
Also required: calculate the value of the tax credit for a hypothetical single taxpayer with an adjusted gross income of $50,000. For this, first, calculate what a “typical” credit that a qualifying taxpayer would be able to use (if any). Then take that amount and “pretend” that it is an “above the line” AGI deduction instead of a tax credit. HINT — the amount that is a tax deduction will only provide the value of the taxpayer’s marginal tax rate. Finally, quantify and communicate the difference between what the value of the credit is and what the value of the hypothetical additional deduction is.
