Film analysis

Analyze a film or documentary on urban life selected by your instructor. Your analysis needs to demonstrate your skills of critical thinking and a solid understanding of the relevant theories and concepts in urban studies that were covered in class materials and discussions.

Please note that your paper should NOT summarize the film. Rather, it should delve deeper into a critical analysis. Your paper should discuss the issues raised by the film, address the film’s purpose, connect it to ideas and material presented in class, and discuss your reaction to what you have seen.

Format: Microsoft Word Document

Length: minimum 1200 – 1400 words

Font size: 12

Line spacing: 1.5 or double-spaced

Margins: 2.5 cm all around

Alignment: Justified

Your analysis should answer the following questions about the film or documentary:

What subjects does it cover?
What issues does it raise?
What do you see as the main purpose of the film?
How does it relate to your class discussions and readings?
Does it contradict or support anything you have learned in the course?
Can you comment on any strengths and/or weaknesses of the film?

Please remember to support your arguments by providing evidence. Your analysis should be written in a proper essay format, with an introduction stating your goals, coherently linked body paragraphs and an insightful conclusion. Your sources need to be correctly referenced, using in-text citation (with page numbers) and a comprehensive bibliography.
