In order to build cultural competence, one has to have knowledge of other cultures. This assignment will allow you to gather information on another country. You will each do a different country. Therefore, you must inform me about the country that you have chosen.

Details of the Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to write a mainly informative five-page research paper (+ cover page and your references page) on a country that is not your native country. The purpose is to inform (teach) your audience about the country, so your tone will be mostly neutral.

You should not be from the country that you are doing.

Your paper must have:

(a) Introduction with thesis statement – formulate a thesis statement that relates that to the process of researching the information about the country to the development of cultural competence or the any other relevant SEL competency.

(b) Have subheadings that discuss the country’s

a. history

b. geography

c. government/politics,

d. economics, and

e. culture.

(c) Have a subheading that identifies and discusses one social issue that the country is dealing with

(d) Have a subheading that identifies and discusses how this country’s verbal and (or)non-verbal communication is different from that of the United States.

(e) Reflective thinking- Have a subheading that discusses how this assignment helps in developing cultural competence.

(f) Have a concluding paragraph.

(g) Let your paper follow the outline above, that is a –f.

Format

While you are given the instructions in a listed form, you must come up with a thesis statement, several body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The paper should be done in APA style, with in text citation, and references at the end. You should not use less than five (5) sources. This is due

Grading

· Body of paper =80% – intro, body, conclusion, thesis statement, paragraphing, details, coherency of ideas, language skills. You must cover all the areas that I asked for in order to score well.

· References = 20% – number of references, APA format. Each reference is worth points. How much you score for each is depended on how well you do the reference in APA style.
