ESSAY TOPIC – Can online education be equaled to conventional classroom education?
Proposed essay topic (5%): Students are required to write a brief description of their proposed topic for their essay in this course including why the subject is interesting from a sociological point of view and why readers should also be interested in hearing about the subject. Write in a formal academic style (APA) and reference several news articles (including Canadian data) to help describe your topic. The proposal portion of this assignment should be roughly 1 to 1.5 pages in length excluding the reference and title page. The proposal portion of this assignment will be graded based on the student’s ability to communicate effectively in writing (grammar, organization, and style), and the relevance of their topic to a discussion about education in Canadian society.
Annotated bibliography (10%): Students are required to submit an annotated bibliography that includes 10 articles (including Canadian data) that they have selected on the subject of their research essay in this course. Instructions for completing the annotated bibliography can be found here: https://advice.writing.utoronto.ca/types-of-writing/annotated-bibliography/ . If you follow the instructions, the bibliography will be between four and five pages long.
Annotated bib summaries should include:
· Main argument/Topic/Research question
· What was the data found?
· Methodology used
· Findings?
· Limitations?
The bibliography will be graded based on: 1) the student’s ability to communicate effectively in writing (grammar, organization, and style); 2) the relevance and quality of their selected sources to their research topic; and 3) the extent to which they conform to the instructions regarding how to create an annotated bibliography. Please see the section in this syllabus titled “Course Policies” for the professor’s policy on applying for an extension on this assessment due to an unforeseen hardship or crisis.
