MSW-6004: Social Work in Behavioral Health
For this week’s Signature Assignment, you will once again revisit your focus topic and the behavioral health issue that you chose in Weeks 3 and 5. You will also continue to visualize yourself in your role as clinical manager at a local non-profit mental health clinic. Now that you have obtained the $25,000 grant that addresses your focus topic, the director of clinical services has asked you to create a handbook of evidence-based practices for this issue. The handbook will be utilized as a training and resource tool for all clinical staff within your agency. The handbook must minimally include the following components:
Provide a table of contents.
Include a section on evidence-based assessment(s) that would be appropriate tools to use with clients who have the behavioral health issue you have chosen. Justify your choices.
Include a section describing and assessing evidence-based interventions, programs, and practices that address your behavioral health issue.
Include a section to address cultural competency related to this behavioral health issue and client intervention.
Document any applicable behavioral health statutes and regulations clinical staff must be familiar with before working with clients.
Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.
Length: 7-10 pages, not including title and reference pages
Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
Reading for that week
Effective Suicide Assessment
Welcome to Week 8! You have made it to the last week of class!
No clinical social worker is adequately prepared for practice until he or she learns how to address suicide effectively. This can be an emotionally charged topic. This topic may trigger a plethora of emotions for some of you, especially if you have been personally affected by suicide. Regardless of the type of social work you intend to practice once you graduate, it is valuable to be educated on evidence-based suicide assessment and intervention so that you will know what to do in case a client, loved one, or even a stranger, present as suicidal.
First, it is important to know some key terms.
Suicidal ideation: Thoughts of wanting to die.
Active ideation: The individual has a plan of how to self-harm and an intent to follow through with the plan.
Passive ideation: The individual has thoughts of dying but has no plan nor intent to self-harm. This is not the same as acceptance of one’s mortality if they have a terminal illness or are elderly and make a comment such as “I’m ready to go home to Jesus.”
This week, you have several invaluable resources to teach you evidence-based assessment and intervention in suicide. They are invaluable because if you learn them and use them, you may just save a life.
Also, if you need my log in for the readings for that week please ask and ill send my log in information but i also copy and paste the links from my resource list. https://ncuone.ncu.edu/d2l/le/content/113017/Home?
