CRWR 101 B Mid-term Assignment

Hello creative writers,

Your mid-term is intended to test how well you understand what I mean by observing closely one thing and describing it in great detail in 10-lines. It is worth 20 marks.

Please study carefully the attached photo.

You must pick out one person in the photo and write a descriptive 10-line poem about what you see. You must bear in mind all the things you have learned in the class about writing a 10-line descriptive poem.

I will be marking your assignment based on your ability to pick out one person and write a descriptive 10-line poem. I want to see what you have learned over the last six weeks. The more focused, descriptive, and original your poem, the better your mark will be.

If you want a good mark, you should spend some serious time on your assignment. Everything counts! I will be looking to see that you have followed all the rules we have discussed. No capitalization. No punctuation. No double- spacing lines. No two-word lines. No use of words like “beauty” and “beautiful.” (And other similar words! You know the ones I mean!) Spelling is going to count, so check your spelling. Like I say, everything counts towards a good or a bad mark.

Ultimately, what will separate the C marks from the A marks will be the richness of the descriptions and the feeling that arises from those descriptions. You are painting a picture with words. Those words describe something. What those words describe should make a reader (me!) see what you are seeing.
