Choose one: Have you ever behaved bravely? Have you ever been frightened to the point that you could not speak? Have you ever laughed so hard that you . . . lost control?

Write a five-paragraph essay that brings to life one of these memorable moments in your life. Tell the story in the third person. To help you do this I want you to choose a pen name with your same initials. (I am Dr. Frilot, so I will use Darlene Frankline, for example.) for this assignment. Writing this way will require that you get inside your own head and see the experience with new eyes. Caution: This experience may shed new light on the event and its meaning for you. Have fun!

The essay must be five paragraphs in length and at least 450 words. Be sure to address the criteria of an effective narration, as specified above. No quotation or dialogue shall exceed 20 words.

Criteria

Formal writing style is required. All drafts must be prepared in MLA style, with five (5) points possible deduction for each deviation from the rules. It may not be perfect for the first draft, but by the final draft, it should. Use the first person (I ate the sushi.) or third person (She at the sushi.) for the first draft.

You many not use the second person. The pronouns you, your, or yours, are too informal for college writing.
Do not use slang or colloquialism except in quotations or dialogue.
Do not use contractions (I can’t./ I cannot.).
