Analyzing Recipes: Meeting Guidelines Assignment
Assignment Description:
For this assignment, you will be analyzing and modifying a recipe to meet the guidelines for healthy food choices, and healthy eating, as identified in Canada’s Food Guide. With this assignment, you will be choosing a recipe, exploring and analyzing the recipe for its nutrient content, and assessing whether it meets the guidelines outlined in Canada’s Food Guide. You are then asked to modify the ingredients, or cooking methods used to prepare the recipe, to meet the recommendations outlined in Canada’s Food Guide.
Assignment Requirements:
In order to be successful with this assignment, you must meet the following assignment requirements:
Selection of Recipe: Choose a recipe of a food item that is commonly had on a regular basis. Some examples might be a pasta dish, a meat dish, a fried food dish, and so on.
Analysis of Recipe: Analyze the recipe you have chosen. Identify the nutrients that can be found in the recipe, and what your assessment is of the overall quality of the food item that is to be prepared (e.g., is it a healthy choice, an okay choice, a sometimes choice, or an unhealthy choice).
Modification of Recipe: Modify the recipe using the recommendations made in Canada’s Food Guide. This might look like modifying the cooking methods to make it so that more nutrients are kept within the food, or it might look like modifying the ingredients used to make the food item. You can also add ingredients, or add components to the recipe to make it more nutritious.
