AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELLOW :

You will be required to employ three of our techniques discussed in the upcoming week from our text: summary, “they say”, and quoting.

Summary: use the excerpts of the text that suit your stance on the issue, support your argument within your body paragraphs. Note: the summary of the intro (what they say, differs in rhetorical intent). You will be impartial, being neutral with the summarized text in question (pg. 40-1). Please use the various verbs at your disposal (pg. 37) to properly express the author’s rhetorical intent. Lastly, please use at least two texts from our readings. Feel free to also summarize potions of the film, “Fed Up,” that effectively contributes to your persuasive agenda.

Quote: You shall quote and summarize appropriately as well as acknowledge the source of the words and ideas via parenthetical references. Feel free to incorporate the templates from the text for the “top layer of the quote sandwich” (pg. 43), and to introduce the “bottom layer” (pg. 44). I expect you to use at least three to four quotes that support your thesis/topic sentence.

They say: According to our text, we are participants in an ongoing debate in this country: fast food. As critical thinkers and writers, we must acknowledge the vast perspectives on the subject. Doing so will eliminate any bias in our part by making it seem as though we’ve weighed the issue evenly handedly and because of this, have made a sound decision in our stance. To use this technique of “responding” to other perspectives, please consider using the templates offered in pgs. 24 and 25.

Focus your essay by providing a confident, forceful thesis statement that is supported with well-structured PIE paragraphs. The thesis should follow the template: I assert that________ or Although corporations influence____________, the consumers are (pick a side) because_____________________.

Provide an effective conclusion: what could possibly be the solution in order to alter America’s eating trend/habits? What would the future look like if we continue to partake in our destructive eating habits?
