Subject and Claim: Explain
your essay’s subject and claim. Claims are simple sentences that succinctly list both the subject and your opinion (the perspective you’re arguing) about the subject.
Then write a few sentences giving more details about the way in which you plan to approach this argument.
Step Repetition: You are required to use five sources for this assignment. These sources must provide credible information that you plan to use in your essay. The following steps must be repeated for each of the five sources.
Step A: Create the works cited citation for this source, in MLA format.
Step B: Below the source, write a one paragraph summary of the entire source. Include the overall idea/point and mention the main supporting details. This summary should be in your own words. If you absolutely must quote a small phrase, use quotation marks.
Step C: Explain in a few sentences how you plan to use this source. What information is specific to your topic? Will this source be used as something to argue against, as background information, to support a specific point, or for some other reason?
Step D: List the specific reasons why you think that this is a credible source to use (related to the way in which you plan to use it from the previous step). Analyze the source for strengths and weaknesses in credibility and mention the weaknesses, also.
-Did you follow directions? How was your grammar? Was the claim clear? Did you list details?
-Did you cite it correctly in MLA?
-Does the summary cover all main ideas clearly in your own words?
-Does your reason for using the source make sense? Were you specific in your explanation?
-Was your list substantial, showing that you thought carefully about credibility and looked at several indicators? Did you identify the downsides, too?
