Bob Dylan became the dominant singer in the folk music revival based on the strong influence of musical culture of New York City/Greenwich Village.
Argument/ Conclusion
Bob Dylan creativity on “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” that rooster crowing “at the break of dawn” was influenced by crowing that came from roosters in a nearby store in Greenwich Village at the intersection of Thompson and Bleecker Streets that used to sell freshly slaughtered chickens to residents.
Bob Dylan was not born in New York City but came into the city at around the age of 19 years. To be specific, he moved to New York City in the year 1965 since the city was known for its enormous folk music history, and as a determined singer, he had to move to the city to start his achievements. During this period, there were a lot of American politics and culture that were taking place. Therefore, when he started to write his music, he borrowed a lot of inspiration from what was happening in society. Wilentz 2011 says that he was creating lyrics based on what was happening in society. Therefore, the New York City culture, politics, and issues in society helped Bob Dylan in writing his folk music.
I think it will be important to figure out how to show the connections between the city and Dylan–by the places he sang, people he knew, songs he wrote about (“Talkin’ New York” for example), for instance. Those might be sections you could add to your outline/paper.
