For this case analysis, you must read the case study and complete your case analysis using the lens of ethical decision-making. You are expected to use the material that has been assigned during the first three weeks of class. You can cite literature from other courses, but it must be related to ethics/ethical decision-making and can only supplement the material that has been assigned during weeks 1-3 in the capstone. You are expected to cite a minimum of 5 sources of academic literature; the majority (over 50% of your total sources) should come from weeks 1-3 in the capstone.
Remember, your case analysis must following this format. You must follow the page length for each section.
Title Page- Include your name, date, and class information on this page. Do not add this information as a header or on any other page of your case analysis.
A summary of the pertinent facts of the case. Begin this section with a clear statement of the problem or dilemma. Identify the relevant information presented in the situation, including, for example, the context/environment, participants, issues, and key decisions needed and made as they relate to ethics/ethical decision-making. This discussion should be brief (1 page).
An assessment of the situation. Begin this section with introductory text outlining the elements of your assessment. Use subsection headings to guide the reader through your work. Subsection headings should be limited to a few words and accurately describe the material/main point of that subsection. How does the situation relate to broader issues, theories, concepts and principles related to ethics/ethical decision-making? Identify the relevant theories or principles that help explain or analyze the situation. Use relevant literature from this course and also from other MPA courses (2-3 pages).
A recommended course of action. Begin this section with introductory text outlining the elements of your recommendations. Use subsection headings to guide the reader through your work. Subsection headings should be limited to a few words and accurately describe the material/main point of that subsection. Develop a set of recommendations to address the issues identified in the assessment and to prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future. Discuss the challenges each recommendation might encounter and how that challenge can be mitigated. This discussion of challenges and mitigation strategies supports the justification for your recommendation and cannot be skipped (2-3 pages).
A reflection on lessons learned. What can be learned from this case in the context of public administration that might apply to other cases, situations or settings? Discuss the harm that can be done with the problems you identified in the assessment and the importance of the recommendations that you provided for addressing those harms. Discuss the relevant public service values, including connections and tensions between the values identified. Avoid adding new information or concepts in this section. (1 page).
A bibliography. Include a list of sources used in the analysis. Use APA format.
The case analyses will be graded based upon the strength of the analysis, application and citation of relevant literature, organization and writing. Review the grade rubric for all criteria. Individual case analyses must be conducted without consultation with other students including students from previous classes. Communicating with others about the individual case analysis is consider academic dishonesty and can result in a failing grade and up to dismissal from the program. For the group case analysis, all group members must participate in the group presentation, and each student in the group will receive the same grade; however, students also will submit a peer evaluation form that will inform class participation grades. All case analyses will be subject to TurnItIn review.
Form and style. Individual and group case analyses must be double-spaced and between 6-8 pages in length, not including reference list. All written work must use a 12-point font size.
