CASE APPLICATION 2 “Who Needs a Boss?”
This case should be completed and submitted individually by students.
1) READ Case Application 2 “Who Needs A Boss?” on pages 25 and 26 of your text.
2) Work through the CASE ANALYSIS. Per the explanation in the Syllabus (page 8) of what is expected for each of the cases:
Rather than simply answering each question at the end of the cases assigned, you are expected to prepare an individual analysis that shows your understanding of the topic covered, your ability to manage strategically and your capability to critically think. As you work each case you should be linking your analysis to the content studied in the corresponding chapter.
Your answers are to be submitted in the form of a strategic analysis. For each case assigned, an outline, no longer than two (2) pages, should summarize the strategic aspects of the case in the following order:
Identify the main issues. Support your decisions with facts, or assumptions made while reviewing the case.
Identify alternative solutions. This depends on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities or threats presented or assumed (each case should have a SWOT analysis – see text p. 281-282 as well as the supplemental outline provided with each case).
State a proposed solution. Describe why you came to the solution and what facts were used to support the solution.
Identify how you would implement the solution. Explain what you would do and why.
This required format should be clear to the instructor. It is highly recommended that you specifically state these steps in your work so that there is no confusion as to which step you are addressing.
Within the required format, your analysis should also include:
A focus of the future situation for each company / manager as you are reviewing the above questions.
A clearly identified path of what the company / manager should do to correct any immediate issues and create a sustainable infrastructure going forward.
Answers to all of the author’s questions listed at the end of the case in the textbook. You can integrate the questions and answers into your analysis or answer them specifically in your paper / presentation. Either way, they must be identifiable by the instructor to earn full credit.
