Casebook Argument

WA 2: Class Casebook Argument

Assignment Context

For this essay, we will be writing an academic argument related to one of three topics in psychology: depression and anxiety in young people, emotional resilience, or sports psychology. You will select ONE of these topics to study and to build an academic argument around.

You will need to look through the Casebook (collection of articles) that is posted in Moodle to find the best sources you’d like to use for your paper. You will also need to find at least ONE article on your own.

Your task is to pick one of the topics and write a researched essay, using some of the class resources and an article you find yourself. For this assignment, you must use at least 3-5 sources with a minimum of 2 of them coming from our shared sources in the Moodle Database (which means 1 to 3 of the sources you use can be ones that you found on your own; if you want to round out your sources with others from the class database, that’s fine).

Clearly, the main “drive” of the paper should come from you and what specific position you plan to argue, but you can use the work of others to help define your position, to recognize its characteristics, and to help provide support for your argument.

Assignment Format & Requirements

The final draft of the paper will be 4-6 pages, typed, double-spaced using no more than 12 point font and margins no greater than 1 inch all around.
You must develop an academic title for your piece that utilizes the conventions for academic titles that we covered earlier.
You must use at least 3 but no more than 5 sources for the paper. At least 2 of these sources must come from the shared resources posted in the Moodle Database.
You may have no more than one long quotation in your paper. All other quotations need to be short and worked into your text.
Obviously, since you’re using sources, you will need to include a properly formatted Bibliography page (using APA documentation formatting), and you will need to give credit to your sources within your work.

For this paper, you can assume that your reader is a fellow college student who is interested in your topic but who doesn’t know a lot about it. Your purpose is to inform your reader about your topic and to show him/her that you understand it well and have developed a specific position on it.
