Cause and Effect Analysis
For this essay, you will explore and prove a causal and effect relationship pertaining to language in our culture. As we have practiced in Assignment #7, you may choose one of two options: Discuss the cause then determine the effects OR discuss the effect and determine the causes. Your “job” as the writer is to prove that causal and effect relationship. You do not have to solve the problem like you did in essay 2.
You will write a thesis-driven argumentative essay using at least ONE of the following articles as evidence of the cause and/or effect that you identified but must use a total of TWO sources. You are required to quote and summarize from these articles as evidence of your cause and/or effects. You may use an article from outside of these texts, but one of the essays listed below must be used. Your guiding question for this essay is: What is one language issue in today’s society (effect) and what are its roots (cause)? Present a clear and explicit thesis statement that argues and claims this causal and effect relationship; it is best to place it at the end of your first paragraph but can place it anywhere in your introduction paragraph.

Tips
• When writing a causal argument, it’s important to keep your essay focused. You want to be sure to choose a narrow topic, one in which you can trace reasons or a sequence of events clearly and succinctly.
• Be sure the reasons you provide, or the sequence of events you provide, make sense and are logical.
Using page 273-275 in EAA, formulate a causal claim. If you are tracing backwards from effect to cause, look at the second example on page 273. If you are tracing forwards from cause to effect, look at the bottom of 274 and top of 275. Look at the language being used in the examples. Your causal claim will be your thesis for essay 3.
Using your causal claim (thesis) from pages 273-275, create an outline for your essay 3. This essay should follow the traditional 5 body paragraph. Your causal claim (thesis) should have either 3 effects and 1 cause or 3 causes and 1 effect. Please look at the outline example below (The example does not follow the topic for your essay, but follows the outline I would like you to follow
