Throughout the semester we explored a number of contemporary topics in communication studies. Build an argument for how and why one of the topics we covered in weeks 7-11 is in fact a current issue in the field (i.e. gaming, online communities, cancel culture, environmental communication, or smart cities). What makes it a current issue?
Recall the ways that we covered each topic (in both readings + lecture): historically, theoretically, and through a series of current examples. Use as many of these perspectives as you can while selecting your own current example(s) to ground your work.
Because this is an essay, you are required to take a position and support it. That means including a thesis statement (“In this paper, I will argue…”) and using evidence to support your claim. How you organize the paper is a key part of how you answer the question.
A rubric for the exam is available. you will be graded according to the following 5 criteria: thesis, use of examples, organization, comprehension of course content, writing (structure, grammar, style). have a close look at that rubric and take note of the descriptions so you know how you’ll be evaluated.
Your goal while studying is to understand each topic from each of these perspectives (definition, history, theory, contemporary examples).
