Now that we have reviewed and discussed the role of technologies in work and organizing (or more precisely, the relationships between technology and organizing), all of us should be able to analyze an actual case of technology use in the modern workplace. select one case to answer the following questions in your paper. CASE CHOSEN: VIRTUAL WORK. Answer the following is essay format;
1) Both cases illustrate how work practice, environments, and processes of organizing have changed in part due to the introduction of new technologies. When we say “technologies” here, we include not only digital technologies but also other tools, objects, and materialities more broadly (e.g., paper and pencil, office space, seating arrangements, to name a few). Think about the case you have selected. How has the implementation and adoption of technologies shaped workers’ lives and routines over time? Make sure to apply Orlikowski (2007)’s (ATTACHED) framework when you describe the influences of technology use.
2) Focusing on the selected case, describe the benefits and challenges of such technology-enabled changes. What are the benefits for employees? What types of challenges do workers (or their company) face? Then, discuss how both employees and their organizations can jointly work together to address such challenges. Make sure to provide some practical recommendations.
