Computer Ethics
Write a paper that presence views on the importance of teaching a course on Computer Ethics at the university level and the impact the knowledge from this course would have on the learning of other CS courses. You should decide in your arguments if this course should be a capstone, mandatory or an elective.
Use the Ethical Dialectical Process of Thinking document attached to help you sate what your ethical position would be on the moral question or dilemma or situation and why.
You should use some ethical principle and human value to decide what you think is the morally correct thig to do. You must state those ethical principles and explain how they have been applied to the situation.
You should indicate that you have rejected alternative positions to your own and the reasons why you have done so. In so doing you need to enunciate clearly the values and ethical principles(s) you are using to both reject the alternative positions ad to defend or support your own.
Dialectical Thinking Structure
1. Take a position on the question or issue. Be as exact as you can be. Be precise in your use of language
2. Provide the reasons (ethical principles and human values) why you think this position is better defended by reason and evidence than are the alternative positions.
a. Position defended using reasoning in support of the judgment (conclusion of the argument).
b. State the reasons (ethical principles and human values) why the position you take makes sense and has evidence and reasons to support it other than your feelings or personal preference or your opinion or what you were brought up to believe or what just about everyone you know thinks or believes.
c. Philosophers have offered such reasons (ethical principles and human values) and evidence for the positions they have taken and you should consider them and if you agree you can and should state them in support of your own position.
3. State the reasons why you found the other positions flawed or less defensible than the one you are defending
4. State the criticisms of your position
5. Respond to the criticisms- rebuttal- how do you defend your position in light of those criticisms
Paper Structure
Length – No less than 3 pages, but not more than 5 pages, exclude the cover page and bibliography/references page – that is if your paper will have at least 5 pages: 1 cover page, 3 pages for content, and 1 for references.
Reference – at least 3 (three) referenced documents. Web-site references may be used and their URLs are put in the reference section. Format and consistency will be graded. Your references conform to APA reference style.
Style – APA
Font – Times New Romans size 12
Spacing – 1.5 spacing
Margin – 1-inch left, right and, bottom; 1.5 inches top
Paper Organization
The paper must consist of the following items:
1. Basic title/cover page – title of your paper, name, date, course, instructor.
2. Section headings and body (3-5 pages) – must have heading as stated below
· Introduction – your position on the question chosen
· Position Defense
· Critique of other positions
· Criticism of your position and rebuttal
(Reference to ACM Code of ethics and Technology policies gives bonus points)
· Conclusion – summarize your main ideas and points on issue
