Facilitator/Participant Overview Essay

SUMMARY OF FACILITATOR/PARTICIPANT EXPERIENCE PAPER

Class time will be allotted for group facilitation experience.
Each student will facilitate or co-facilitate a group session during one of the class meetings. Facilitators/Co-facilitators will select a group type, plan a group to be held during class time. Each student will have an opportunity to facilitate/co-facilitate a group, and experience group roles, stages of group development and engage in group dynamics (e.g. communication, confrontation, decision-making and experience providing group leadership.)

You will prepare a paper on your group experience, both as a Facilitator and as a Participant. The following content, among other topics, should be included in the paper:

(a.) group planning
(b.) group beginnings
(c.) group norms
(d.) stages of group development
(e.) member roles
(f.) patterns of group communication
(g.) level of group cohesion and mutual aid
(h.) ethical and value issues and dilemmas
(i.) group power dynamics and leadership

An important component of the assignment is for you to reflect on your own feelings and personal perceptions about your role and contributions to the group (i.e. use-of-self as a group member). Also, you are expected to identify limitations and strengths involved in your own co-facilitation experience with your partner.

In the paper each category needs to have a subheading so that the instructor can see the key components in the paper easier.
I will have attached a powerpoint as well of the presentation I have given in class and you can go off of it to assist the facilitator part of the paper since she wants me to go into that experience but she also wants me to go into the participant experience when other groups presented. If you have any questions about the other groups that presented so that can be added into this paper please don’t hesitate to ask. It is my last paper and it needs to be perfect.
