Mills on Family Obligation
(50 pts) (a) On the question whether we have obligations to family members, what is Mills’ view and her reasoning? How does her view differ from English’s view? Who do you think is making the best point, and why? Use at least one example to illustrate something you are describing in this part of the essay.
(50 pts) (b) To what extent are we obligated to family members, according to Mills? How does this differ from English’s view on the extent to which we are obligated to family members (see Ppt 13 / slide 17)? With whom do you agree with more, and why? Use at least one example to illustrate something you are describing in this part of the essay.
TIP: A close rereading of the entirety of the Mills article would be a very good idea. Simplifying Test II to one applied ethics topic enables you to focus in this way. In her article, Mills also discusses English’s view.
