Fashion as a tool to deal with body dysmorphia
This is a response for an article, in which the focus is in how fashion has adapted to help or harm individuals with body dysmorphia/image concerns

The paper can have a “personal” take so there are some facts that I would like to have included based on personal experience or conversation with peers.
– Fashion profits from body insecurities, however these insecurities are perpetuated by individuals/greed. Designers and creatives alike have come with “solutions” such as padded shoulders to have a dramatic effect in a common insecurity (broad shoulders in females) that recognize those natural broad shoulders are not ridiculous but natural. High waisted pants or waist belts that remove attention from other parts of the body to accentuate the waist and hips in proportion to the rest of the body.
– Another aspect in a personal note is the gaze on body attributes that can be perceived as “beautiful” in current society (large breasts) but one it is a point of focus it can become shameful and fashion is used to cover it. Through tight sports bras or just the complete avoidance of cleavage.
