freedom of choice in regards to higher level university education of women in

We began this semester by pondering the many definitions of Modernity from my handout and PowerPoint lecture. What did you think about Immanuel Kant and the enlightenment? Did you agree with Adunis’s definition or did you like the methods of Stuart Hall? Or are you rebel like Bruno Latour? I finished a lecture on modernity with more questions and allusions. The goal was to introduce all of you to many theories of modernity and the possibility of yourselves creating your own theories.

We all read Albert Camus’ The Plague. The novel was both a literal and allegorical reading of modern pandemic and/or catastrophe. The novel tracks in a unique way how humans, as individual and as governments responded to a plague. Furthermore, the novel does take place in the Arab World. There are 100s of stories, issues, and quotes in the novel that connect to all of your topics

1. Please think about the consequences of modernity in relationship to the topic you have chosen and the handouts and powerpoint in class.

2. Find a part of that novel that connects to your topic. It is not necessary to be a direct connection. It could be feeling, a look, a description, a character, a quote. Make it part of your writing. It could even be connect to the author’s philosophy of Absurdism. I encourage some flexibility.

Based, on the two requirements above, write about your topic exploring its significance, and implications. How will addressing your topic allow human’s to achieve more consciousness and better conscience? What is at stake?

In a 5-7 page writing exercise, respond to the above. You are free to use any structure you prefer, but this is not a thesis paper yet, it is an exploratory paper. You are expected use around 3-4 resources connected to your topic. You work should be the font Times New Roman, 12 and your margins should be normal. Double-spaced. Between paragraphs only double-spaced not more please. Your work should be proofread, but you are not graded on grammar and language this time.

You will be evaluated on how well

· You interact with all texts in terms of close reading, analysis, and interpretation in relationship to the prompt above.

· You consider your topic in relationship to a few sources and our class texts.

· You write coherent work(again no grade on language and grammer)

Please be specific about page numbers you quote from or mention and also what texts you are choosing to interact with. You will not be required to use any citation system. Only be responsible.

The goal of this assignment is to get you writing about your topic and we hope that you will use some of the material for you final draft.

Writing is thinking. Please begin and don’t worry about perfection, please we only want progress.
