Information technology (IT) is integral to achieving substantial quality improvement in healthcare. In this 8-10 page paper, students will assess the use of IT to improve access to information, support evidence-based decision making, and compliance with government mandates in the U.S. healthcare system. Students should include an appraisal of at least three of the following: provider use of handheld wireless devices, computerized decision support tools, computer physician order entry systems (CPOE), the use of simulation models for education and training, and automated error alerting mechanisms. APA formatting and a minimum number of eight professional references are required. References should be less than five years old in order to reflect current information.
