The goal is to present the topic in a unique, new, and compelling way. You need to support your main points with a variety of supporting materials such as examples, statistics, illustrations, explanations, etc. You can include personal anecdotes, stories, and illustrations for this speech. However, you will need at least two outside (beyond your textbook) sources. For the purposes of this class, Wikipedia does not count as a source. You must go to the original source cited in Wikipedia.
You have a total of 4 to 4½ minutes to deliver this presentation. If you speak for less than 4 minutes and more than 4½ minutes, points will be deducted. Time your speech when you practice. Since you have a change to shoot this multiple times, there’s no excuse to not meet the time limit! If you come up short, add more informative content. If you go over, edit!
Preparation and Delivery Outline
You will create two different outlines for this presentation.
1. A formal, full-sentence outline that allows you to prepare for and craft the main points of your speech along with sub points and transitions. You will also list your outside sources on this outline. A preparation outline template is below. This is NOT the outline that you will use when delivering the presentation.
2. For your speech, you may use a delivery outline that includes only KEY WORDS to prompt your thinking. Do not write out whole sections (or the entire presentation) on the paper. You will turn in the preparation outline, but do not have to turn in the delivery outline. More on delivery is provided below.
