Part II Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory – Correlating Your Understanding of Erikson’s Personality Development Theory – to the Different Life Stages of the person you interviewed. – 30 points
One of the best known theories of personality development is that of Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson. Erikson presents a theory of psychosocial development, which emphasizes our social interaction
with other people.

According to Erikson, developmental change occurs throughout our lives in eight distinct stages. Each stage presents a crisis or conflict that the individual must resolve. He also believes, how
a person deals with each crisis affects how the personality develops, as they pass through the psychosocial stages.

The psychological ‘crisis’ of each stage, must be resolved by the individual before the individual can transition into the next stage. Erikson states that if the person copes with a particular crisis in a maladaptive manner, the individual will struggle with that issue later on in life. To Erikson the sequence of the stages are set by nature. It is within the set limits that nurture works to enhance what nature has endowed. (pulled from Erikson’s documents)

Using your subject’s life story, you will demonstrate your understanding of Erikson’s stages of Psychosocial Developmental theory as related to the life of the person interviewed by addressing each of Erikson’s stages.

Part III Social Responsibility – 10 points
In Part II, you learned about how the person’s personality can be developed as she/he passes through the eight different stages of life. Erikson indicated that nature is what we are born with, it is the nurture that sets the way our personality develops.
In Part III, Discuss the key people in each stage who have had an impact on the person you interviewed. Who were these people in relationship to your subject, and why do you think they were so influential at this stage of life? Using deductive and/or inductive reasoning, describe how this outcome may have influenced your subject’s future decisions, behaviors, thoughts, and emotions. Be specific in discussion how each individual influenced or could have successfully nurture someone through the crisis of each stage.
