Matt Holland is struggling to make an important decision – should he accept the offer to work for Walmart?
Matt knows that you are taking a course in Ethical Issues in Organizational Communication and, so, he asks for your assistance in sorting out the ethical issues that he needs to consider in making his decision.
Write a memo to Matt Holland (approximately 3-4 pages) in which you address the following questions:
(1) Do Walmart’s actions towards the local business community align with Walmart’s corporate values? Be specific in your response.
(2) Do Walmart’s actions towards its employees align with Walmart’s corporate values? Be specific in your response.
(3) What are the key ethical issues for Matt to consider in his situation? Be specific.
(4) What is your recommendation to Matt – should he go to work at Walmart or not? Explain your reasoning. Be specific.
(5) How should Matt best communicate his final decision to his business colleagues in town? Be specific in describing what his communication strategy should be. For example, consider both the setting/communication channel (time and place) as well as the message.
