PESTLE Practice –

Instructions –Choose one scenario from the ones listed below (indicate which one). Perform a short PESTLE analysis on the US Market. Include 2-3 facts in each PESTLE category that are significant to the scenario (for at least 12 facts about the US market environment). You can refer to the course videos/slides and the table on page 23 in your textbook. Explain briefly, why you feel that these particular factors are most important for your expansion plan. Also write briefly about the best mode of entry to the US market.

Scenario 1 –

Imagine that you are a foreign travel agency focusing on the Indian Ocean islands and Southern Africa – Suntime. Though your services are popular in Mauritius and Southern Africa where they are distributed, as yet, in the US your services are only popular with a few US travelers and Africa aficionados. You are looking at entering the US market on a larger scale.

Scenario 2 –

Imagine that you are a textile firm – Zamco. Though your skirts and scarves are popular in Bangladesh where they are made, as yet, in the US your skirts are only popular with a few US buyers who frequent South Asian craft and museum stores. You are looking at entering the US market on a larger scale.

Scenario 3 –

Imagine that you are a foreign data processing center – Meditech. Though your service—the transcribing of audio tapes from US doctors in hospitals into individual patients’ records within 12 hours of receipt—is popular in Philippines where you are located, as yet, in the US your services are only popular with a few US hospitals on the West coast. You are looking at entering the US market on a larger scale.

Scenario 4 –

Imagine that you are a foreign car maker – Proton. Though your cars are popular in Indonesia where they are made, as yet, in the US your cars are only popular with a few US collectors and car aficionados. You are looking at entering the US market on a larger scale.
