Students will study research features, processes and current trends in healthcare systems across the U.S. The student will present their recommendations through an authored paper on the same subject that will be turned in as the final U.S. Healthcare Systems research paper assignment for the course. Research paper should be a minimum of 5 pages (does not include cover or reference pages!) using the APA format. Appendices, pictures, and similar material may supplement the text in the Appendix if needed. Please cite all information sources! The final U.S. Health Care strategies paper is to focus on the main theme of the course, which is how to use U.S. Health Care strategies and techniques to improve an organization’s competitive position compared to other firms in its industry. You can choose any topic as long as your can relate it back to American Healthcare Systems If you get confused, take a look at your Table of Contents. Here is one way to look at choosing a topic: TREE: Think of a big tree…yes, I said a tree. The name of the tree is U.S. American Health Care Systems. • BRANCH: Now, choose just on branch of that tree. The “branches” of the tree is the chapters of your textbook. I will use Chapter 11: Health Services for Special Populations as my branch. • LEAF/LEAVES: Now it is time to choose a leaf. Chapter 11 has several subchapters (leaves) in it. If you look in chapter 11, the subchapters are the following: • Vulnerable Populations • Racial/Ethnic Minorities • The Uninsured • Children • Women • Migrant Workers • The Homeless • Mental Health • HIV/AIDS • Rural Health You will choose one (or two) of these subchapters. I said you may choose two because some of these subchapters go together. Question…can you talk about the homeless population without talking about mental illness? Can you talk about women’s health without talking about children? Can you talk about the migrant workers without talking about the uninsured? Do you see where I’m going with the??? • PAPER FORMAT COVER PAGE (not counted in page count) • Centered on the name of your assignment o Your name on the name of the university you are attending INTRODUCTION (no more than one page) Please give me a brief introduction of your topic. This should not be more than one page. You should be able to convince the reader about your topic without going past one page. • REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE (1 ½ – 2 pages) This is when you use GALILEO to find your article (not unless you already have chosen an article) regarding your topic. This section should have nothing in your own words. This section should only have information on what the experts say about your topic. The experts are the authors of your article. Everything in this section should be cited. Why did you choose to agree? Why do you disagree? Was there something not mention that the experts should have considered? • CONCLUSION (A conclusion should not be more than one page) This is when you make your final decision. You are either for it or against it. Tell me what the future holds for you special population. Does it look like a bright future or not?
