Part 1: Written Case Study

Create a case study about a client (see example for further information about what is expected) This should be at least 1.5 – 2 pages of written work, single spaced with the following headings:

1) Identifying information ~ (name, birth date, physical characteristics)

2) current placement information ~ (length of time, type of placement/living arrangement, people that youth lives with)

3) client history ~ (familial, behavioural, medical, academic, social)

4) current strengths and interests

5) current challenges and concerns ~ (behaviours to self and others, school, family, social, medical issues)

6) reason current placement is challenged ~ (something has happened at the current placement so that the youth is no longer able to stay there)

One Case Study to be handed in per group by 11:59 PM of the due date. All group members should participate in the writing of the case study. Incorporate your knowledge of characteristics of the exceptionalities we have discussed in the course.

Part 2: Presentation of Case to RPAC

Your group will present the client to the RPAC committee. One person will be the supervisor, one will be the primary worker of the client, one will be a Child Protection Worker from the CAS, and one will be another worker from the agency who has connected well with the client. If the current placement is foster care, one person will be the supervisor of the agency, one will be the worker assigned to the family, one will be a Child Protection Worker, and one will be one of the foster parents. Provide each RPAC member with a copy of the case study. Each person is required to speak briefly to the RPAC committee about concerns and why they feel the current placement is challenged. This should take approximately 20-30 minutes. Each person must be assigned a role in relation to your client.

Note – Each person in your group will need to be assigned a specific role in relation to your client.

Part 3: RPAC Member

Your group will act as an RPAC committee for another staff team. You will receive the information presented to you, ask questions, and provide a response to the staff team within a 1 week time frame regarding recommendations for placement of the client. Your decision needs to be informed. This will require research of current community agencies. The response will come in the form of a professional letter (see example for further information about what is expected). A rationale as to why you made the decision needs to be provided. A copy of the letter is to be sent to the staff team via email and to the dropbox within a week after the presentation.

Marks will be awarded as follows:

Written Case Study – group mark

Case Study Presentation – individual mark

RPAC letter – group mark
