Summary reflection 4: Principalism

Part One

First, in your own words, provide a detailed description of the following terms: the 2 parts of beneficence, autonomy, the formal and proportional senses of justice, and non-maleficence. (These are the core principles of principalism from this week’s readings in the online reading and PPT.)

Part Two

Provide a situation where a cultural practice is in conflict with one or more of the four principles from principalism and provide justification why you think the principle(s) that you identified wins out over this cultural practice.

Provide a situation where you explain how two of the four ethical principles come into conflict with each other and then justify which of the two principles you think should be chosen over the other one.

Each week you will be required to do a summary reflection forum. For this assignment, you will write a brief summary of the week’s readings along with answering a reflection question. The assignment will be listed under the content tab. This assignment has two parts. Part One: Write a summary of the reading. In the summary you need to explain the main ethical concept(s) discussed in the reading per instructions. Please do not use quotes. (These concepts will be listed in the description of the assignment that is posted on D2L.) (Part One should be at least 275 words; the more the better.) For this part of the assignment, you will be graded for how well you explain and elaborate on the concepts in the summary in your own words. Part Two: Answer the question that will be contained in the assignment’s instructions. The question will require you to critically think about some ethical issue related to the reading. For this part of the assignment, you will be graded on how well you justify your answer, not for simply doing it. (Part Two should be at least 275 words; the more the better.) Part One and Part Two should be posted together on D2L as one document.
