Tackling a Crisis Head-on
Considering the course materials for this week, answer the following:
Describe the crisis faced by the organization.
What communication tactics did the organization use to address its crisis? Refer to Jack and Warren’s guidance for dealing with crises.
To what extent, if any, was the organization’s crisis communication plan effective?
If you were a senior leader in the organization, would you have responded differently? Why or why not?
This week and next, continue to research this specific crisis so that you can better prepare for Assignment 2.
In your post this week, we want you to prepare for Assignment 2 and doing a research component. For your Week 5 Discussion post, find a crisis that occurred and was reported on by the Wall Street Journal. We gave you some examples in the Week 5 lecture.
Make sure you describe the crisis you are selecting with a short synopsis in your own words about what occurred. Of course, make sure you list it as a reference and use in-text citations.
Please ‘cut and paste’ all of the Discussion Board questions into your post, so you do not leave any out.

When you begin answering the questions, please also try to address these questions within your answers, so they add depth to your discussion post, so we can all learn from your crisis:
Did this crisis involve only the organization or the public?
What was the company’s communication approach to the crisis?
Who in the firm responded?
How quick did they to respond?
Was there follow up with new information?
Do you feel they were truthful?
Do you feel the company’s communication approach was effective? Why or why not?
Do you think the response was well-thought-out and planned, or just reflexive?
Did the story change? For better or worse?
Was the response effective or did it antagonize the situation?
Did everyone involved appear transparent and candid?
Did the person/public appreciate the response?
After reading and watching the videos this week, what would you have done the same?
What would you have done differently?
Will you now incorporate a Crisis Communication Plan?
