a persuasive essay intended for a specific discourse community that includes consideration of the rhetorical situation and appropriate appeals.
Task: Choose an argumentative/persuasive topic that is the same or closely related to the topic that you chose for the Unit One essay. Remember as well that you will share your essay through peer review. Note: if you choose the exact same topic as you did for the Unit One essay, be sure that your Unit Two essay is entirely new and original; none of the content should be similar.
Conduct research as appropriate to your topic. You should have at least 5 sources. Be prepared to justify your use; in other words, why are they the best sources for your purposes?
Write an essay (around 1,250 words or roughly five typed pages) that is clearly focused, thoughtfully organized, and developed with detailed and specific content. Use a more formal tone and writing style. First or third person narration is appropriate; second person is not. Be consistent with whichever point of view you choose.
Follow MLA format to set up your essay: one inch margins, 12-point font, header instead of title page, etc. As well, use MLA to set up the Works Cited page and for in-text citations. If, however, your topic is particularly well suited to another citation style, email me to see about using it instead.
