MY PAPER I WROTE: Imagine having to owe someone until you are well within your mid- 40’s. Well most Americans can do so, if they picture their student loan debt. It’s a nuisance leaching off of Americans that’s holding them back on an everyday bases. Student loans will no longer be a problem, the workforce will widen and give low income families a chance to further their education. In order to achieve this utopia, college tuition should be free for all US citizens.
Many high school graduates are avoiding college due to their high tuition. 39% of college students would consider dropping out to avoid paying student loan debt. Student loan debt is the second highest consumer debt. According to Forbes student loan debt is at a high of $1.56 trillion. If college tuition was free millions of Americans would no longer have to live life being haunted my student loan debt.
Not only will free tuition eliminate student loan debt but it’ll widen the workforce. Americans will be more educated and be able to open business, putting more jobs within their community. When Americans have access to free college education, the number of people for high-skilled jobs will come available. This means the unemployment rate will be down. The gap between high, middle- and low-class families will no longer exist. Between 1945 and 1970, when minorities were being court ordered to attend white only schools, a study was conducted by the LPI senior following Rucker Johnson showed, “graduation rates climbed by 2 percentage points for every year a Black student attended an integrated school. A Black student exposed to court-ordered desegregation for 5 years experienced a 15% increase in wages and an 11-percentage point decline in annual poverty rates” and with a study flow eventually, the work gap between black and whites would have been closed by the early 21st century.
According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, fewer than four out of every 10 (39%) low-income kids have a parent who finished at least some college. They may have no one to provide guidance or even assurance that they are on the right path. Eliminating college tuition will give low income families a chance to further their education and break this cycle of low-income families not going to college. I know it’ll also bring equality to college campuses. Free college tuition will also give low income families another option to achieve wealth.
Inconclusion, the best choice America can make is making college tuition free for all US citizens. This can eliminate student loan debt. it can widen America’s workforce; it will give low and middle class families a chance to further their education. A world with free college tuition is a utopia.
